Today never happened
we slipped in between the cracks
we found a secret tunnel
dirt walls lined with little things we lost
the walls fell away and we found this space
a whole new day
untarnished by time and lies
and things we wished
it stayed hidden
far away from all the others
we didn’t want it to get sick
or lose it again, forever
nothing else mattered
no one called
no one rang the doorbell
or knocked
the sun came up
even though we never saw it
and the moon surprised us
pushing its way in front of the sun
down at the water
the tide never came or went
it just rolled along
and the sand stayed warm
we saw old friends
and people we met once
people who were super nice
but we never totally bonded with
off in the distance
we saw people watching
the dead, the living, the distant
but maybe they were just memories
today never happened
(and tomorrow may not either).
